AIM ARINC-664 Avionics Data Bus Interface Module
The AIM ARINC-664 (Part Number: 789380-01) is an advanced avionics data bus interface module, compatible with PXIe and CompactPCI Express system types. The AIM provides the ideal means for testing, simulating and monitoring ARINC-664 and AFDX Ethernet-based networks as used in modern aircraft systems. The AIM provides on-board processors and FPGA technology capable of automatically and autonomously processing all protocol-related operations for ARINC-664 including transmit scheduling, receive buffering, and time stacking, while passing off host-dependent processes. This hardware technology provides the real-time performance and control that is needed for aerospace implementations.
The AIM ARINC-664 features up to two independent Ethernet channels, each of which can be selected through software for either transmit or receive functions. This software configurability enables operation at the data rates of 10/100/1000 Mbits, in conjunction with dedicated MACs, DMA engines and hardware level capability for error detection and generation. Available on the module is 1 GB of shared DDR3 memory, and 2 GB of dedicated receive memory which is necessary to manage the high data throughput and longer life test sessions.
The integrated IRIG-B time address code support in addition to the timing capability of the PXI system allows accurate timestamping and correlation of timing among the various modules in use in order that deterministic operation exists among the distributed avionics systems in the network being built. Further, the on-board logic on the AIM permits sophisticated error simulation, such as the generation of CRC errors, timing differences and protocol violation errors, which are needed to confirm validation of the systems as being robust.
The AIM ARINC-664, with its unique mix of FPGA-based flexibility, on-board processing capability, and wide range of software programmability is ideally suited for avionics development, production testing, and certification of systems. Available to the engineer, through the AIM, are capabilities for simulating the aircraft data buses, checking the network implementation behavior, as well as performing deterministic communication analysis capability in the various laboratory and operational environments. Further, its effectiveness in managing ARINC-664 traffic and integrated timing capability makes the AIM ARINC-664 module an important and core element of advanced avionics integration and verification systems.
